Hobbies

I think it’s healthy for everyone to have a hobby.

But…not just any hobby…Something that’s TOTALLY different than what your general interests are. I feel like it helps people experience different aspects of life. Hopefully that didn’t come off as hippy-ish.

I was just thinking of what my next blog post should be about and I didn’t want it to be about something completely random/irrelevant. Eventually, I decided I should blog about my new hobby and what I’m currently doing with it.

If you follow me on twitter or instagram, you probably also know that I started making leather goods (i.e. handbags). Anyways, here’s the story of how it began…I was in Korea (not North obviously) and I had a lot of spare time on my hands. The life of an idol is always busy, except when you’re not promoting. After promoting the first album, I wanted to do something productive…other than working out and practicing.

First Creation

Second

With the help of my mom and some other acquaintances I started learning how to sew, design, and all this other stuff so I can start making leather goods. The reason why I chose this was just random and since my mom used to be a designer she helped me out. After I got the hang of things I started designing some things on my own and now I’ve shared with you some of the things I made. Obviously, there were lots of other creations which were fails in between that time.

The point of this blog is to encourage everyone to try something new, even if you’re somewhat uncomfortable. It was difficult for me when I first started because I knew nothing about it. Now, it helps me relieve stress (not that I’m even that stressed out since it’s summer). The featured image is something I actually use, it’s a luggage carrier name tag. I always thought the one they give you at the airport is really inconvenient and it doesn’t even help you identify if it’s your bag from far away. The “designer” carrier name tags kinda seemed tacky so I decided to make one on my own.

I hope this might motivate some of you guys to try something new. I know it’s easier said than done, but I think (especially since it’s summer) its a good time to learn!

P.S: I read all of your comments so I appreciate it and if you have any suggestions for me about future blog posts that would also be great!

  2. Amazing work! I had a few screw ups when I first started sewing.

For the next blog post idea, how about talking about how being a Kpop idol changed you? like learning to be more patient, trying new things, how you dealt with stress

    OR

Talk about your college career, studying, tips. I mainly care about this one because I’m about to be a fourth year college student and I find it impossible to be able to sit at a desk and study.

  3. Yes!! I have to say that though I am a girl and u do like shopping and makeup and all, I find myself really enjoying coding and Photoshop. These things are not what most girls in my community resort to as their hobby. But like you I find this “different” hobby of mine a great stress reliever. I’d seriously spend all day doing it if I could. Aha, anyways really thank you for his post. I really enjoyed it.

For future blog posts, I would like to know what’s being like as a trainee to going overseas for fan meetings- we met at your first fansign and departure hall in Singapore ^^ if that’s okay for you to write.

In my opinion, I would suggest something like how to keep being motivated and never give up or maybe write about travel tips? ^^ check out my blog if you have time ^^ http://musicgirlz96.blogspot.sg

Have a good day, Hyungjin 🙂

  6. You are lucky cause your mom is a designer and she can help you. I really wish to design something but i dont know how i can do it, so i choose learning different languages as a hobby 🙂

  7. Your pieces look really nice, and it’s great to hear how your hobby stemmed from wanting to to a bit more with your time! My mom used to be a seamstress, but my sewing skills didn’t progress much (my sister did well though!). I currently just go from my house to work and back, I guess a hobby would be a nice break in between…maybe I should get to studying for the GRE haha.

  8. Great hobby, I have simmilar 🙂 Yesterday I was on fashion contest and I presented own clothes. My suggestions for you about future blog posts: can you take a photos while you’re sewing? Something like tutorial, step by step. It’s so interesting how you do your great leather masterpieces 😀

  9. I think it’s a great hobby. It’s cool if you found something to relieve stress. :))
Personaly, I don’t really have a hobby. I mean, I’m often behind my computer, watching dramas and stuff like that. x)

As a future post, I always was curious of how it was to be trainee, since you were a foreigner. Of course if you accept to speak about that. ^^

Btw, it’s cool to see you posting things like that. We can learn more about you. :))

  10. A really interesting hobby! The creations look extremely professional and eye-appealing. Have you ever considered potentially starting a business with your hobby?
Personally, I’ve never been much of a spontaneous person, but the modern phenomenon that is Summer Boredom can really bring out one’s eccentricity. Last week, I signed up for some volunteer work at a local food pantry–a completely new experience for someone who usually stays home cooped up with her dog, a drawing pad, and the latest episode of The Walking Dead. I’m hoping to broaden my horizons and make the most out of this new-found time now that school’s out…just fingers crossed that this productivity remains in about a month.
As for future posts, I think it’d be interesting, of course, if you talked about your idol life and the decisions that led you to where you are now. The realities of the scene, the good times, the bad times, tips for aspiring idols/wannabe trainees, etc. Your life is obviously very unique, and I’d love to hear you talk more about your experiences (past and present), decisions, philosophies, general life advice, and the like.
Wish you the best, and keep us updated!

  11. but rather than calling it a hobby, i will say it is something that I want to do/learn, haha because as much as I want to do/learn some, that’s not something I will do during my leisure time.

i was learning how to knit but the tools needed for one item are expensive, so now I kinda just stuck halfway, because I dont have enough $$$ to get the tools to continue knitting for now. but definitely i will get back on the track soon.

hope to hear from you soon again
